Eni Storage Systems broke ground on a battery manufacturing plant at Brindisi in July 2026, on the historic Versalis site. Together with a second plant at Teverola, the programme targets 16 GWh of annual capacity by 2030, split evenly between the two locations, aimed mainly at stationary storage systems.

Eni has said the Brindisi hub becomes operational in stages, with the first battery assembly section running by mid-2027 and the gigafactory starting up in 2029. That sequence puts civil, mechanical, electrical and process installation teams on site continuously for several years. Brindisi has a working port economy and a strong summer season, so long-stay supply tightens sharply between June and September.
