PORR is building a new semiconductor factory for X-FAB MEMS Foundry in Erfurt, the Fab4Micro project, with around 3,500 square metres of cleanroom space for MEMS, integrated microsystems and photonics, plus an office building and links to the existing Erfurt operations. The published project duration is July 2026 to July 2028.
X-FAB received a grant notification of EUR 127.4 million from the German federal government and the Free State of Thuringia for the cleanroom, and the city has said first production is planned by the end of 2028. Cleanroom projects concentrate specialist mechanical, electrical, process piping and qualification trades into a tight window, usually on multi-month assignments.
