German LNG Terminal is building a fixed onshore import terminal in the ChemCoast Park at Brunsbuettel in Kreis Dithmarschen, with Gasunie and RWE as shareholders alongside federal co-financing, and a Cobra IS and Sener consortium delivering the engineering and construction. The Schleswig-Holstein economics ministry cites capacity of about 5 billion cubic metres of gas a year, against higher figures in earlier planning documents, with two storage tanks of 165,000 cubic metres each. No peak workforce figure has been published beyond the current headcount. Brunsbuettel has about 12,700 residents. Itzehoe lies roughly 27 kilometres away and Heide about 33 kilometres, with Elmshorn a wider option near 39 kilometres. Local evidence of pressure is practical rather than statistical: a regional employer has been building its own worker housing since 2024, a skilled worker recruitment initiative launched in 2026, and contractor room listings for the town are active.
