Working on the factory expansions at Ludvika? Tell us your crew size, dates and trade package and we will source long-stay housing across Ludvika, Smedjebacken and Borlange.

Hitachi Energy is expanding its Ludvika site in Dalarna, its main power transformer and high voltage direct current centre, with several projects running in parallel. A 20,000 square metre transformer factory expansion raises large transformer capacity by about 40 percent and sits inside a roughly 1.8 billion krona transformer programme. A separate 700 million krona building of 20,000 square metres adds five times the high voltage testing capacity plus office space for 1,000 people. Two smaller buildings of about 170 million and 150 million krona were started in April 2026 and approved in June 2026. It all sits inside a wider Swedish investment announced in June 2024.
Groundbreaking on the testing and office building was in May 2025 and on the transformer expansion in November 2025, with completions running through 2027. A peak construction headcount is not published. Ludvika has about 26,800 residents and the municipality states an acute housing shortage driven by the expansion. The company's Swedish chief executive named housing, school places and transport as the three bottlenecks in February 2026, the company is co-financing 160 new rental homes in central Ludvika, and Swedish television reported incoming workers housed at Brunnsvik about 10 kilometres out because nothing was available in town. Smedjebacken is around 10 kilometres away and Borlange around 40.
