Net Zero Teesside Power is a gas-fired power station with carbon capture on the South Tees Development site at Redcar, built by a joint venture of bp and Equinor with the linked Northern Endurance Partnership carbon transport and storage infrastructure. Capacity is up to 742 megawatts with capture of up to 2 million tonnes of carbon dioxide a year. The partners took the final investment decision on 10 December 2024, construction started in mid 2025 and start-up is targeted for 2028. EPC contracts across the two projects total around GBP 4 billion, with Balfour Beatty holding a GBP 833 million construction partner contract awarded in June 2025.
The published figure is more than 3,000 construction jobs across the two projects, with about 1,000 permanent operations roles later. Delivery is physical now: the Redcar Bulk Terminal deep water quay upgrade completed in April 2026 and the first heat recovery and condenser modules arrived by ship on 20 April 2026, with turbine deliveries scheduled later in the year. Redcar and Cleveland had 136,500 residents at the 2021 census and grew only 1 percent over the decade. Teesworks material flags an accommodation gap near the site and a 160 bed hotel and service complex was submitted to the council to serve incoming construction workers, so the working catchment spans Redcar, Middlesbrough, Stockton-on-Tees and Hartlepool.
