Novo Nordisk is expanding its production site at Chartres in Eure-et-Loir, announced in November 2023 at more than EUR 2.1 billion. The plan doubles the site from 110,000 to 230,000 square metres and adds about 500 permanent roles on top of a workforce that has passed 1,900. The company published a figure of up to 2,000 external workers on site during the construction phase. Work began progressively from 2023 and 2024, and the company reported the extension 50 percent complete in May 2026, with the first aseptic module equipment operational, the utilities platform running and finished goods lines under validation.
Completion is staged through 2028, and later phases beyond the first two remain subject to further public consultation, so they are not confirmed work. That pattern suits crews on multi-month installation, qualification and commissioning assignments rather than short visits. Chartres itself had 38,324 residents at the 2023 census. Metropolitan officials have publicly flagged the need to plan housing, facilities and services for the new employees and their families, in a labour market they describe as already tight. Dreux and Chateaudun widen the practical catchment, and no dedicated worker camp has been announced for the construction phase.
