PowerCo, the Volkswagen Group battery company, is building its Gigafactory Valencia at the Parc Sagunt industrial estate in Sagunto, about 30 kilometres north of Valencia city. The announced investment is EUR 3 billion, with initial capacity of 40 gigawatt hours and potential expansion to 60, across roughly 130 hectares for the plant and around 200 hectares including the supplier park. Later reporting in October 2025 said series production will start with about 20 gigawatt hours over two lines, with further blocks planned.
The build is active. Spanish coverage put around 1,400 workers on site in late 2025, with 11 industrial buildings and the first production block largely complete by that Christmas. The production timetable has slipped more than once, from the original 2026 target towards pre series in late 2026 and full series in 2027. Phased fit-out and equipment installation of this kind brings specialist mechanical, electrical and process crews in overlapping waves, and Sagunto is a modest sized town, so long-stay supply is best secured by package rather than at short notice.
