Hanseatic Energy Hub is building Germany's first land based import terminal for liquefied gases in the Stade-Buetzfleth industrial park on the Elbe, in Landkreis Stade. Investment is around EUR 1 billion for capacity of 13.3 billion cubic metres of gas a year, with two tanks of 240,000 cubic metres each, and long term capacity is around 90 percent booked. The build is heavy civils: roughly 4,600 piles, 60,000 cubic metres of concrete and about 11,000 tonnes of structural steel. The company published a peak of more than 1,100 people on site. The final investment decision was taken on 21 March 2024 and groundbreaking followed on 28 June 2024.

The schedule has moved. Commissioning was originally targeted for 2027 and the company now refers to a first expansion phase in 2029. The floating terminal at the same site is a separate, federally owned project with its own long running contractual dispute, and should not be read as the state of the onshore build. Stade has around 49,000 residents. The municipal building control office asked the state and district for emergency staffing in 2023 specifically because of the terminal's permitting workload. Buxtehude sits about 18 kilometres away and Horneburg about 10 kilometres, with Hamburg roughly 45 kilometres for wider cover.
