GIB EnergyX Slovakia, a joint venture of Gotion and InoBat, is building a battery cell factory on a plot of about 94 hectares in the Šurany Industrial Park, Nitra Region. The planned investment is about €1.23bn, for 20 GWh a year of initial output with planned expansion to 40 GWh, and 1,311 permanent jobs. Construction was officially launched on 28 October 2025. Slovak business press reported on 15 September 2026 that construction was continuing but the halls were unfinished and machinery installation had slipped, so the original September 2026 pilot production date has moved and no revised date is confirmed.
Full operation depends on completing the project's environmental impact assessment, and current works are permitted for selected structures only. The environment minister has questioned whether the plant will be completed, while the investor and the government say it is proceeding, so treat the timeline as uncertain. Šurany has around 9,000 residents, and the practical catchment runs to Nové Zámky, about 14 km, and Nitra, about 29 km.
