Google is developing a data centre campus in the Pyhänsivu and Leppiniemi zoning area, about 5 km from central Muhos in Northern Ostrobothnia. The municipal council approved the zoning plan in March 2026, and under its land use agreement Google pays Muhos €26m once the plan is legally in force. On 9 September 2026 Google announced at least €13bn of investment in Finland over 2027 and 2028 across Hamina, Kajaani, Muhos and Vaala, with about 16,000 construction jobs nationally. Google does not publish a capex or capacity figure for Muhos alone.
Site work is currently limited to preliminary infrastructure, with the main construction planned for 2027 and 2028. One appeal against the zoning plan is pending at the Northern Finland Administrative Court and Finnish press describes the schedule as tight, so the start date may move. Muhos had 8,767 residents at the end of 2025, and Oulu lies about 35 km away along highway 22. Kajaani and Vaala, on the same road, have their own Google builds and will compete for the same crews and beds.
